Marmoush has vital role to play says Pep

Pep Guardiola is looking forward to having Omar Marmoush firing on all cylinders again.

The Egyptian’s campaign has been blighted by injury, but he is making his way back to full match fitness and the City boss says he will have no qualms about playing Marmoush and Haaland together up front if and when the situation demands.

“He was injured a long time, but Omar and Erling can play together,” said Guardiola.

“So when I need a winger in the side, there are players that can hold the ball better, but we need the players close to Erling, in the gaps between full-backs and central defenders. In the second positions and intensity.

“Omar is the best. If we need to play close to the box, Omar is the best that we have alongside Erling.

“But when we need more players in the pockets, more control, the other ones are better.

“So it depends on what we need. In moments sometimes like last season, the full-backs wide and the wingers inside, he is top.

“He can play number nine potentially, as well.. So Erling is so important and impressive, and he scored many of the goals we scored. But when we need goals that is sometimes the case.

“Omar is so important. He had a few minutes, less than one inch offside and make the action to equalise against Aston Villa.

“Omar has this quality but still is young and has margins to improve.”
