George Kittle had hilarious reaction to Jake Tonges' touchdown vs. Texans

For the most part, the San Francisco 49ers' 26-15 Week 8 loss to the Houston Texans was one to forget, and there weren't exactly too many positives to share around the red and gold.

However, the Niners' two scores both were delivered by tight ends, George Kittle and Jake Tonges, which was fitting for the annual National Tight Ends Day celebration.

Kittle hauled in San Francisco's first touchdown, his second on the season after recording one way back in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks before a hamstring injury felled him onto injured reserve.

But, it's the second score that ironically created some (funny) controversy.

George Kittle was initially upset at Jake Tonges' TD score

Tonges' touchdown reception off the hand of quarterback Mac Jones looked a little awkward, almost as if the backup tight end wasn't quite expecting it to go his way.

Reaching back and over his head, the Los Gatos, California, native still managed to haul it in for six points, putting the 49ers back in the game before things got out of hand late.

Interestingly enough, Kittle thought the ball was heading toward him.

"We're both open, Mac throws me the ball, and Jake just has nice long arms and sticky fingers, and [he] plucked that baby right out of the air," Kittle described to KNBR 680's Murph & Markus Show on Tuesday. "My initial reaction, because like... you know, me and Mac had that moment where we locked eyes, it got kind of intimate. I'm like, 'Oh, yeah, he's going to throw me this touchdown.' And then all of a sudden, the hands go up and [Tonges] plucks it.

"My initial reaction was, 'Gosh darn it.' Then it was, 'Oh my gosh, that was Jake.' I'm totally OK with it."

Interestingly enough, that was Tonges' fourth touchdown of the season, double that of Kittle's 2025 totals to date, although one had to acknowledge the latter's stint on IR.

At least Kittle wasn't upset any longer, given the unofficial holiday.

"We can celebrate that," Kittle continued. "It's a tight end touchdown."
