Wizards vs. 76ers final score: Washington collapses in fourth quarter, loses 139-134 in overtime

The Washington Wizards lost to the Philadelphia 76ers, 139-134 in overtime on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena.

The Wizards looked good for most of regulation. They were ahead 72-68 after the first half, then took a big lead in the third quarter, leading by as many as 19 points. They headed to the fourth quarter with a 110-94.

It was natural to expect the Sixers to come back in the fourth quarter, but I was surprised to see that Washington collapsed, letting Philadelphia eliminate the lead with a Quentin Grimes three pointer with less than a minute to go while Tyrese Maxey also was hot for that entire time. Both teams were tied 126-all heading into overtime,

While Grimes cooled off in overtime, Maxey scored 9 points, five of them from the three point line which helped the Sixers get the victory. Washington didn’t attempt a single free throw in the extra five minutes. That said, the Wizards and Sixers did exchange leads during the period with the Wizards leading by as much as 5 after Alex Sarr made a three pointer to help get Washington ahead, 131-126 with just over four minutes left.

For Washington, Sarr led with 31 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists while Kyshawn George added 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. For Philly, Maxey led with 39 points, Joel Embiid added 25 more and Grimes had 23 points off the bench.

The Wizards’ next game is on Thursday when they play the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tip off is at 8 p.m. ET. See you then.
