Arsenal are said to be scouting a talented young full-back as they look to get ahead of transfer fees.
Arsenal are said to have sent a scout to watch a talented young player they like the look of. It has taken a good few years and hundreds of millions, but the Gunners have done a very good job of putting together a squad with plenty of depth and bursting at the seams with quality.
A handful of players in that squad have come from the academy, which has been a huge help, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly saving the club plenty of cash. But one thing Arsenal could do a better job of is signing young talents at relatively low prices and getting a big return.
That’s something Chelsea have focused on with their shopping in the last year or two, with the Blues getting success in the South American market. The West London side are looking to spend £20-£40million on the best young players with the expectation that they will become players they would otherwise end up paying £80-£90million to sign once they become stars elsewhere.
Arsenal can improve in that area, and it’s not for lack of trying. The Gunners have fallen short with investments like Fabio Vieira and Albert Sambi-Lokonga, and many of those sorts of players just haven’t turned out to be the players those at Arsenal expected them to be.
One player Arsenal seem to think might fit the bill when it comes to signing a young star to be is AC Milan’s Davide Bartesaghi. According to MilanLive.it, Arsenal recently sent a scout to watch the 19-year-old to play against Juventus, and the scout was also there to keep an eye on Kenan Yildiz, who could yet become available if Juventus can’t agree a new contract with the superstar youngster.
Bartesaghi initially came through at Milan’s first team in 2023, but he has been a more regular feature this season, making five appearances across all competitions. The left-back is an Italy under-21s international, and he is now attracting attention from a number of clubs, according to the report. Arsenal and Barcelona are said to be among the main suitors.
The youngster is under contract until 2030, though, having recently penned a new contract. Milan are likely to demand big money should they sell to another of the big European clubs. Arsenal may be willing to pay, although they are not in need in the short-term at left-back, with Riccardo Calafiori, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Jurrien Timber options on the left side.
