James enjoying challenge of tier three in 'competitive but supportive' environment

That mindset has helped the team earn results late on in games, and has seen them make an unbeaten start to life in the National League Southern Premier Division.

The summer saw Bournemouth bolster their squad with a number of new players with experience in the third tier and above.

James said that had been a real positive for her personally as one of the more experienced heads in the dressing room.

“It's nice to see players come in that are a bit younger as well, who are really pushing those older players in the team,” she told the Daily Echo.

“I think just as a collective, we're creating a really competitive but supportive environment, and I think that's really important for us going forward.”

Discussing the collective spirit of the team, in the context of a number of late goals that earned them points, James said: “I think collectively, I think we're very good at just focusing on us.

“I think even in the toughest of circumstances, we always have that belief in each other and ourselves.

“So, whenever we're in these sticky situations, we've always got it in the back of our minds that we know we can pull it out of the bag.

“It's been really important for us so far this season with some of those late goals.”

James, from Poole, has been at the club for a number of seasons and has seen them rise the pyramid.

“I've been here five years now, so I've seen the progress that the club's made and obviously we're very fortunate that we've got such good backing from the team as a whole,” she said.

“The club are so great with us in terms of the access they give us to things, and it's those little details that we spoke about that are really pushing us forward as a team.”
