Arsenal fans will be getting excited as a key player steps up his return from injury.

Arsenal fans have been getting excited by the surfacing of images on social media featuring one of their injured stars working on a return. The Gunners have enjoyed a superb start to the season, now sitting four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after an excellent run of form.

At this stage, Arsenal effectively have two full teams that could compete at the top of the Premier League, and it has shown in the absence of some key players. The latest example saw Eberechi Eze step up to score a winner against Crystal Palace, filling the shoes of Martin Odegaard, who is out until November with injury.

Elsewhere, Viktor Gyokeres was signed as a new starting striker to provide serious competition for Kai Havertz. Gyokeres hasn’t been red-hot in front of goal, but he has netted three Premier League goals and two more in the Champions League.

What’s interesting is that Arsenal fans are yet to see Havertz - who has been out with injury since the opening day of the season with injury - properly compete with Gyokeres for a starting role. It will be interesting to see how that impacts Gyokeres form, and indeed if Havertz can win starts.

Havertz is not yet ready to play, but he has posted images on Instagram that show him working in the gym, and it follows a report from John Cross that Havertz is closing in on a return and that he will be back in the coming weeks.

When he last spoke about Havertz, on October 17, Arteta said: “It's very difficult, there's still a lot to do in his rehab. He's really pushing it. We know Kai, and that's why we love him so much, but we have to wait and see. He wants to break every timeline, I'm sure, but that's why we have to protect him and make sure that when he comes back, he comes back for the long term.”
