The Gunners are working on tying down starboy Bukayo Saka to a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal are ‘progressing’ in contract talks with star boy Bukayo Saka as the club hope to tie the 24-year-old down to a lucrative new contract that commits his long term future to the project at the Emirates Stadium.

The England international, who is a product of the Gunners academy, has become the star player under Mikel Arteta in north London. Saka has now made 273 appearances for the club with 73 goals and 71 assists.

The winger signed a contract extension in 2023, which extended his deal until 2027. The club are looking to renew that to avoid any transfer speculation next summer as the player enters the final 12 months of his deal.

Arsenal ‘progressing’ in Bukayo Saka contract talks

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano wrote on social media platform X: “Arsenal are progressing well in talks with Bukayo Saka and his camp over new contract. Salary details being discussed but all parties involved aligned and convinced to move forward together. Talks were already underway before the summer window, proceeding well.”

The BBC had also claimed that there is a ‘growing expectation’ that an agreement between the player and the club would soon be reached. It was added that securing a new contract for Saka ‘would be as significant to the club as any of the seven summer signings’.

Saka holds a place on the team’s leadership committee and has captained the side several times with Martin Odegaard out injured. A new deal would see Saka become one of Arsenal’s best paid players.

Saka navigating illness ahead of Brighton

The forward is currently managing an illness and it remains to be seen how many minutes he is handed against Brighton in the Carabao Cup fourth round match at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night. Saka played 66 minutes in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last weekend.

LondonWorld rated the player a 6/10 for his performance against the London rivals in a tight affair. We wrote: “Found it hard to get past a very well organised Crystal Palace side. Brought his usual pace and drive on the counter but no huge goal threat this afternoon.”

That may have been, in part, down to his illness. Speaking after the match, Arteta said: “Bukayo has been ill. He hasn’t trained really. We didn’t know if he was going to be fit, he made a big effort to be available today. The doctor was brilliant as well to guide us and give us the best opportunity to be in the best possible condition. He’s managed to play a few minutes but the longer the game went he was going to fatigue and risk an injury. We didn’t want to take that risk.”
