Strength in depth to be tested? Tottenham Hotspur predicted XI vs Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur will turn their attention to domestic competition this midweek as the North Londoners are scheduled to face Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

The North Londoners enjoyed a thrilling win over Everton at the weekend as Thomas Frank got his tactics ‘spot on’ in the game. And those three points will only help as the Lilywhites go into an away knockout fixture at St James’ Park; there are barely any more hostile grounds in all of Europe.

And going into the game, the Dane head coach will have one eye on rotation but also another on how tough of a test this is in a competition where Tottenham can go all the way.

We will take a look at how Tottenham could possibly line up against Newcastle tomorrow.

Goalkeeper: Guglielmo Vicario

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Newcastle: Guglielmo Vicario likely to start.

Tottenham do have Antonin Kinsky among the backups, but given that this is a touch test against the defending EFL Cup champions, Vicario should get the nod. He has been saving Tottenham time and again in the past week. And the supporters would go into the game expecting another strong performance from him.

Defender: Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence

Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Newcastle: Kevin Danso gets another chance to impress.

Given that Romero is unavailable, the men at the heart of defence continue to be the same from the weekend. Danso and Van de Ven have been strong in the past few games, and they would want to continue that run of form. Porro and Spence provide width and cover.

Both the central defenders will have to be commanding in the air, given how Newcastle have an easy attacking route through Nick Woltemade. While for Porro, he needs to keep track of transitional situations every time he gets involved in an attack. His set-piece delivery will also be very crucial.

Midfielders: Palhinha, Sarr, Bergvall

Lucas Bergvall back in the eleven.

With Palhinha continuing at the base. Rodrigo Bentancur and Xavi Simons get that much-needed rest. Sarr will finally get his opportunity again after putting in some impressive performances at the start of the season. He will have to be wary while going forward but will be tasked to link midfield with attack.

Bergvall has also been demoted into a bench role of late, and he needs to show his energy in the game.

Forwards: Kudus, Richarlison, Odobert

With Tottenham benching Simons, Frank will have to play another marquee summer signing in Mohammed Kudus. The former West Ham man will need to play more of a hybrid creator/winger role. He has been doing that finely in the build-up to the game, and he needs to continue to do the same.

Frank will use Kudus to drag defenders, create overloads and supply the final pass or, maybe if he gets space on the inside, shoot.

Richarlison comes back into the eleven after being benched against Everton. He will be desperate to claim his starting place back.

And on the left, Wilson Odobert gets a nod. There have been times that he has made that decision a bit too late, but his rapidness can come in crucial in transitional situations.
