Sunderland linked with ex-Liverpool man, FA charge Newcastle United, Aston Villa want Wilson Isidor
Aston Villa have been linked with a January move for the striker as Unai Emery hunts for potential targets
Aston Villa will get the opportunity to bring in some new faces when the January transfer window opens for business. They will also have the chance to let players head out the exit door as well if needed to free up space and funds. The Midlands outfit have hit form in the Premier League over recent weeks after a slow start to the season.
Update regarding Aston Villa links to Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee
However, in this latest update regarding his future in the North West, The Sun claim the Red Devils could ‘block’ an exit for him. This is because they are expecting a few AFCON call-ups and they don’t want to leave themselves short of options. Therefore, Emery may need to look elsewhere for targets up top.
Zirkzee, 24, is under contract at United until June 2029 meaning they are under no pressure to sell him just yet. They forked out a hefty £37 million to snap him up last year but he hasn’t been able to find his shooting boots. He has made 54 appearances in all competitions for them to date, five of which have come in this campaign, and he has scored seven goals.
The Holland international, who has six caps to his name, was on the books of Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2022 and was loaned out by the Bundesliga giants to Parma and Anderlecht to get some experience under his belt and boost his development. He then joined Bologna and was a hit during his time in Serie A. The forward found the net on 14 occasions in 58 outings before heading out the exit door for a new challenge in his career in England.
What now for Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa?
Zirkzee could be seen by Emery as someone to add more competition and depth to his attacking ranks. Although he hasn’t been prolific for the Red Devils, a change of scene may do him good and would help him get his career back on track. He proved at Bologna that he knows where the back of the net is and if he links up with a head coach like Emery who can put his arm around him, he may be able to find his confident again and starting scoring regularly.
