Another Premier League gameweek is in the books – how is your Fantasy Premier League team looking at the end of gameweek nine?
It was a positive period for fans of Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, to name a few. This aside, who were the best performing individual players on FPL?
Goalkeepers
The highest-scoring goalkeeper on FPL this week was Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez with eight points. After a tumultuous summer that saw the 2022 World Cup winner threatning to leave the club, he turned in an excellent performance against Manchester City to keep the Citizens quiet.
Elsewhere, David Raya, Guglielmo Vicario and Djordje Petrovic all helped their teams pick up clean sheets en route to their respective victories.
Four goalkeepers could only amass a single point this gameweek – of the four, Jordan Pickford was the most expensive and therefore represents the worst value for money. £5.5 is very expensive for a ‘keeper – those with the Everton shot-stopper in their teams have the right to expect stronger returns.
Defenders
Gameweek nine was all about Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven. The Dutchman accumulated a mammoth total of 23 points after he scored a brace and kept a clean sheet against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Elsewhere, Matty Cash scored the only goal of the game as Aston Villa upset Manchester City, collecting a healthy total of 15 points in the process. Cash has had his doubters this season – a huge congratulations to anyone who had the mental stiffness to stand by him.
Two defenders were subjected to negative points totals this week – Brighton’s Ferdi Kadioglu and Manchester United’s Patrick Dorgu each were sent home with -1 points.
Midfielders
Has Ruben Amorim turned the tide at Manchester United? There is plenty of evidence to suggest so – especially when you look at the FPL points totals of Bryan Mbeumo and Casemiro this week.
Casemiro turned back the clock to score and register an assist, while Mbeumo bagged a brace as the Red Devils swept aside Brighton by a score of 4-2.
It was a disappointing outing for Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka – he had no involvement in the Gunners’ only goal of their game against Crystal Palace and found himself subbed just after the hour mark. Three points isn’t an awful total, but one would expect more from one of FPL’s most expensive players.
Forwards
Give yourself a big round of applause if you had Zian Flemming in your team this week. The newly-signed Burnley man was on fire against Wolverhampton Wanderers, scoring two goals as the Clarets picked up a vital win on the road.
Additionally, Lyle Foster and Wilson Isidor – two other players who have flown under the radar – each picked up healthy points totals of seven for this week.
On the other hand, two of FPL’s most popular forwards – Viktor Gyokeres and Erling Haaland – both drew blanks this week. In particular, Haaland is the most-captained player virtually every week – as such, this will have disrupted the plans of millions of FPL players in gameweek nine.
