Sir Alex Ferguson helps decide new award won by Ruben Amorim for the first time

Ruben Amorim has been rewarded for Manchester United’s upturn in form following Saturday’s victory over Brighton in the Premier League.

After a slow start to the 2025/26 season, Manchester United are showing signs that they have turned a corner, after winning three consecutive matches in the Premier League.

Sunderland were the first victims before the October international break, before United backed it up with a 2-1 win over Liverpool. The latest win saw United beat Brighton 4-2 at Old Trafford to strengthen their position in the top half of the table.

Apart from lapses in concentration for Brighton’s two goals, it was a convincing display as United made it three wins on the bounce under Ruben Amorim for the first time.

Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace, Matheus Cunha scored his first goal for the club, and Casemiro’s strike from outside the box took a lucky deflection past Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

Ruben Amorim named Everest Men’s Performance of the Week winner

United head coach Amorim has been awarded the Everest Men’s Performance of the Week award after his first-ever win at Anfield.

Mbeumo opened the scoring in the early stages, but United required a goal in stoppage time from Harry Maguire to secure three points against Arne Slot’s struggling side.

The accolade, presented by the League Managers Association (LMA), was determined by a panel including former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Other panel members include LMA Chairman Martin O’Neil OBE, Jess Creighton, Les Ferdinand MBE, Barry Fry, Chris Hughton, Mick McCarthy, Stuart Pearce MBE, Clare Tomlinson, Carla Ward, and Rachel Yankey OBE.

It’s the first time Amorim has won the award. United fans will hope it’s a sign to come.

Amorim’s latest accolade proves there has been a remarkable improvement because his future looked uncertain four/five weeks ago due to poor results. That changed after Sir Jim Ratcliffe offered Amorim his public backing and full support to downplay speculation over a change in management.

How many times did Sir Alex Ferguson win LMA Manager of the Year?

The Everest Men’s Performance of the Week award didn’t exist when Ferguson was United manager.

Ferguson went a step better by winning LMA Manager of the Year five times.

The Scot also won LMA Manager of the Decade for the 1990s.

It goes without saying that there won’t ever be another manager like Ferguson.
