REPORT: Liverpool 'Offer' £50K+ Per Week Contract To Centre-Back Ahead Of £35M January Bid

Liverpool are prepared to “offer” Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez a €3m+ a year (£50,000 a week) contract, according to reports in Ecuador.

Bolavip claim that the Reds are lining up a €40m (£35m) bid for the 21-year-old ahead of the January transfer window and they are already discussing personal terms with the player.

Ordonez is on a rather modest salary at Club Brugge, and while £50,000 a week is not a lot for a Premier League footballer, it would be a sizeable increase on what he is currently being paid.

In addition, it would also be similar to Ibrahima Konate’s salary. Capology claims the Frenchman takes home around £70,000 a week, so that information tracks.

Liverpool need to strengthen their options at the back

The Reds’ defence has been a major problem in recent weeks. Arne Slot’s team have not kept a clean sheet in 10 games, and they have conceded 15 times during that time.

Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate need more competition for their places, and Ordonez could be the answer.

The Ecuadorian international is regarded as one of the most promising young centre-backs in Europe, but he doesn’t have any experience of English football, so it means he may still need an adaptation period, which could affect his initial performances.

There is competition for Ordonez

Back in August, when Liverpool were last linked with the defender, several other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham and Aston Villa, were also mentioned as potential suitors.

However, Bolavip report that the Merseysiders’ main rivals in January could be Serie A side Inter Milan. The chances of the Nerazzurri paying as much as £35m for Ordonez are said to be rather slim, so that means a switch to Anfield seems the likeliest possibility at the moment.
