Giannis Antetokounmpo’s blatant travel in Bucks-Knicks looks unreal — but it’s not AI

As the biggest star of the Milwaukee Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo will always have the ball in his hands. But just like all of the other players, he is bound by the rules of the Association. Then again, there are instances when such rules, when broken, don’t get caught.

During Tuesday night’s showdown between the Bucks and the New York Knicks at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Antetokounmpo seemingly committed an egregious traveling violation in the first quarter while trying to attack the defense of Knicks star big man Karl-Anthony Towns.

Antetokounmpo picked up his dribble just before he crossed the 3-point line and somehow still managed to make an attempt at the rim. Granted that the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player’s strides are incredibly long and that there’s a thing called the “gather step”, the way he waltzed into the paint and near the basket without dribbling the ball was something that the brains of 80s and 90s basketball fans won’t be able to handle.

Antetokounmpo’s travel (or not) immediately went viral, with countless fans sharing their opinions on it.

“That’s not a travel, that’s an expedition..🤣🤣🤣,” said a fan on X.

Another one said: “Might as well just put the ball in his purse and jog around with it 🙄”

From a commenter: “He doesn’t have control until the ball stops spinning and he gained control when he took his gather step.”

“This is bait. Steps don’t start counting until he picks up the ball,” a social media user posted.

Via a different commenter: “Pack you bags, we are going on a trip.”

Said another: “This is exactly how I play basketball with my nephew… glad to know I’m doing it right.”

In any case, Antetokounmpo and the Bucks had the last laugh against the Knicks. Antetokounmpo scored 37 points to lead all scorers in the contest, as Milwaukee defeated New York, 121-111.
