Louis Saha has hailed a couple of the current Everton side and reckons they remind him of the Blues team that he played for under David Moyes. Saha netted 35 goals in 115 games for Everton between 2008-12, including one after just 25 seconds in the 2009 FA Cup final, and he played in a side that finished fifth, eighth and seventh in the Premier League in his three full seasons at Goodison Park.

Despite the Blues suffering a 3-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur – the club the Parisian striker left them for – on Sunday for what was their first loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium, the 47-year-old reckons a duo within the squad are like a throwback to his own time on Merseyside. Speaking to football betting site BetVictor, Saha said: “It’s great because Everton is a club that has struggled for the last three years, and having flair players like Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye has been unbelievable. Those two players really shine and bring smiles to the fans.

“It’s great, and I’m sure that it’s a combination that David Moyes always looks for, a tight, compact, aggressive team, but at the same time with flair.

“I remember back in the day we had Steven Pienaar and Leon Osman in midfield, and those players were able to take away the pressure sometimes. They’re doing really well, so Grealish is back to his best.

“He has a definite role, understanding that he’s definitely a unique player in this squad, giving him a lot of joy just to be there.

"He’s great, but maybe at Manchester City, he had too many other players around with very special skills that were undermining him in some way.

“So he wasn’t with the same smile on his face, whether he says it was or not. But deep down, when you see him expressing his football now, you can see he’s back.”
