Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzić believes Jadon Sancho can still win the Ballon d’Or.

The winger is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United as he bids to rediscover his form under Unai Emery.

It’s a similar situation to what Marcus Rashford experienced back in February, when he also used the club as a platform to regain his confidence and, frankly, his love for the game.

Sancho has made five appearances on loan at Villa so far and has twice come close to opening his account for the club — hitting the post against Brentford last month before being denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 1–0 win over Manchester City last weekend.

Last season, Sancho was on loan at Chelsea, where he featured in 31 of their 38 Premier League matches, scoring five goals and registering 10 assists in all competitions.

Sancho played his best football at Dortmund before leaving for United in the summer of 2021. He later returned to the Bundesliga side for the second half of the 2023/24 campaign as he struggled for form at Old Trafford.

During that spell, he worked under Terzić and played a key role in helping Dortmund reach the Champions League final last year.

Terzić, who managed the likes of Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham, and Sancho during his time at Dortmund, believes all three — including the current Villa loanee — have the potential to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.

He told The Telegraph: "All those players can win the Ballon d'Or in the future. Even Jadon. From the talent point of view, if you talk about Jadon then maybe five years ago you would talk about Ousmane Dembele [who won the title this year with PSG] in the same way.

"I am talking about the talent and potential. The difference is Erling will reach this level if he stays hungry: Jadon will only reach this level if he keeps smiling – and Jude needs to do both."

Terzic added: "On the pitch, I tried to reach the joy of the child in Jadon – off the pitch, the professional athlete in Jadon.”
