Player pushed Wolves to accept transfer offer despite lower wages on table

Fabio Silva was so determined to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer he accepted much lower wages at Borussia Dortmund.

That’s according to SportBILD, who say the striker turned down bigger wages at Roma to make the move to Dortmund this summer.

The newspaper explains that Silva has quickly impressed at Dortmund since his arrival. There is now an internal consensus that he will be a regular in future. He’s considered the replacement for Serhou Guirassy, who is six years older.

It’s not just his performances on the pitch that are convincing. It’s also his commitment to the club. That was show in the summer.

Wolves also received an offer from Roma for him. The Italians even offering 30% more in wages. At Dortmund he receives around €4m with bonuses. Roma were offering just over €5m in basic salary alone. Over a five-year deal, it would have been around €6m more in his pocket.

Silva, though, was convinced by Dortmund and wanted them. He then pushed Wolves to accept their offer over Roma’s. That’s despite the Italians offering much more in wages.

He saw the club as the one he could settle down at following his time at Wolves. They’re now hoping he’ll be there for a while.
