Newcastle have had their issues at full-back in recent weeks, with setbacks for Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento requiring 33-year-old Dan Burn and 35-year-old Kiran Trippier to step in during our hectic schedule.
Hall is close to returning and Livramento has been pencilled in for our home clash with Man City on 22nd November, but one forgotten option in all of this is Emil Krafth.
The Swede might just feature against Spurs tonight, but his only action so far this season has come in a 61-minute cameo against Bradford and he’s out of contract next summer.
This brings us to the latest transfer link, as Danish outlet Bold claims that Copenhagen are keen to sign the 31-year-old in January.
The report states that the Danish giants are ‘ready to make a move’ for Krath in the New Year, as current right-back Rodrigo Huescas has suffered a serious knee injury that will rule him out for the remainder of 2025/26.
Considering Krafth is out of contract next summer, January may be the ideal opportunity for the Swedish international to start, allowing Newcastle to recoup a small fee and the player himself to get some much needed game time.
Copenhagen can offer the former Amiens star Champions League football and a chance to play regularly ahead of next summer’s World Cup, where Sweden still have an outside chance of qualifying via their Nations League ranking.
Newcastle will soon need full-back additions – Trippier is 35, Krafth and Targett out of contract, and Burn no longer suited to playing at left-back – but losing Krafth in January for a cut-price fee may be a wise move for all parties, especially if the player can secure a return to Scandinavia and Champions League football.
