Tottenham, Barcelona and Newcastle United are reportedly all keen on signing Napoli midfield mainstay Scott McTominay.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Scott McTominay’s consistent performances at Napoli have put him on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, and Barcelona. All three clubs are keen on signing the Manchester United graduate as they look to reinforce their midfield.
McTominay came up the ranks at Old Trafford and got promoted to United’s first team back in 2017. He was an important part of their first team and ended up making over 250 first-team appearances before leaving the club in 2024.
The Scot went down the pecking order under former manager Erik ten Hag, and they ended up selling him to Napoli for an initial fee of just £21 million. He has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Italian giants.
Scott McTominay has gone from being surplus to requirements at Manchester United to becoming a mainstay at the Naples-based club. The Scottish international helped them win the Scudetto in the 2024/25 season, and he ended up finishing 18th in the 2025 Men’s Ballon d’Or rankings.
McTominay is attracting significant interest
The 28-year-old has carried that form into the new season, and it has resulted in a lot of interest in his services. Tottenham are one of the clubs that are keen on bringing Scott McTominay back to England. Thomas Frank is not satisfied with his midfield options and believes McTominay could help his cause.
The Scot’s strong physical presence, box-to-box energy and composure could do wonders for them. Even Newcastle are keen on his signature. Eddie Howe feels his leadership quality and Premier League pedigree could help them push for a top-four finish.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are also in the mix as they look to add more quality to their midfield. McTominay is believed to be a part of a three-man shortlist. Given how important he is to Napoli, a winter move is already off the table. However, clubs could try to lure him away next summer, and the project at hand might play a big part.
As far as the Serie A champions are keen, they are looking to hold contract renewal talks in January. The Partenopei want to extend his contract until 2030 and insert a significant release clause.
