Another star to sing at Super Bowl festivities ... and it’s not George Strait or Lee Greenwood

SAN FRANCISCO, California — The NFL has announced another major music star will headline a Super Bowl 60-related concert in February.

And for folks upset about Bad Bunny performing during halftime ... sorry, it’s not George Strait or Lee Greenwood.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Sting will perform at the Palace of Fine Arts on Feb. 6, two days before the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. It’s part of the Super Bowl’s Studio 60 concert series, the Chronicle reports.

Country singer Chris Stapleton is scheduled to perform the night before the Super Bowl, according to sfgate.com.

There has been controversy surrounding the selection of Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican rapper and singer, to perform during halftime. There has been criticism from several conservative political figures, including President Trump.

A petition was started after the selection in an effort to get the NFL to replace Bad Bunny with Strait, a longtime country music star. There also were some calls for Greenwood to perform.

But NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement saying the league was not considering changing the halftime show.

“It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.”

Bad Bunny is one of the top recording artists in the world, selling more than 100 million albums.

Sting has been a superstar since he was lead singer of The Police in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He’s also had tremendous success as a solo artist and has won multiple Grammys.

He performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2003, co-headlining with Shania Twain and No Doubt, Entertainment Weekly reports.
