Former Duke national champion and Oklahoma City Thunder player Kyle Singler was charged with misdemeanor assault in Oklahoma on Tuesday, according to reports.
Singler, 37, was arrested Oct. 23 after his girlfriend told authorities that he grabbed her head, shoved her to the ground and attempted to rape her, News 9 in Oklahoma City reports. He appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and he refused to cooperate with authorities, according to a probable cause affidavit, AP reports.
The incident occurred while the couple was staying at an Airbnb in Whitefield with their child. Officers responded to the scene after receiving a call about a man chasing a woman outside of a residence.
“It looked like he palmed her face like he would a basketball and pushed her down, as what she had said,” Mitch Dobbs of the Haskell County Sheriff’s Office told News 9. “The marks kind of matched a handprint and fingerprints on her left side of her face.”
Singler was booked into the Haskell County Jail on one count of misdemeanor assault and battery in the presence of a child. He was later released on $6,000 bond, according to jail records.
Singler played six seasons in the NBA from 2012-18 for the Detroit Pistons and Thunder. He was drafted by the Pistons in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft after a decorated career at Duke, where he helped lead the Blue Devils to winning the 2010 NCAA championship.
A four-year starter for Duke from 2007-11, Singler averaged 16.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1.1 steals in 148 games for the Blue Devils. The Medford, Oregon, native was named the 2007-08 ACC Rookie of the Year and was a four-time All-ACC honoree.
