Patrick Mahomes had Andy Reid worried against the Washington Commanders before he was told the quarterback was just celebrating
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was left worried about Patrick Mahomes after he saw his quarterback down on one knee against the Washington Commanders, only to find out he was doing a celebration mid-game.
The Chiefs moved to 5-3 on the year after they beat the Commanders on Monday Night Football 28-7, with Taylor Swift in attendance to watch Travis Kelce catch his 100th touchdown of his Kansas City career. While Kelce caught six passes for 99 yards and a touchdown from Mahomes, the former was at fault for a brutal interception that the latter threw against Washington.

However, despite the faltering first half, the Chiefs found their rhythm after halftime, continuing their strong performances of late that have seen them cast aside any fears that the 2025 season would be a down year for Kansas City.

During the game, Mahomes, who completed 25 of 34 passes for three touchdowns and two interceptions, looked to have gotten up from after a play awkwardly, prompting fears from Reid that the Chiefs' star was injured.
However, Mahomes was merely doing the Chiefs wave celebration, with NFL Films catching the moment he explained to Reid what had happened on the sideline.

"Did you hurt your leg?" Reid asked Mahomes following the play, prompting the quarterback to quickly allay those fears. "What? Nah, nah, I was celebrating. I was good, I was celebrating, I did the Chiefs wave. The Chiefs wave," replied Mahomes, referring to a celebration started by receiver Xavier Worthy that has extended to the rest of his team.
Clearly showing little interest in the celebration, Reid could be seen in the clip walking away from his quarterback, happy in the knowledge Mahomes was not hurt.

And while Kansas City looks to have returned to form following their recent results, their next three games will serve as a real test for Mahomes and Reid.

Following their win over the Commanders, Kansas City is set to travel to Highmark Stadium on Sunday to face off against the Buffalo Bills.
The following week sees the Chiefs on their bye, before they return to action against the AFC West rivals, the Denver Broncos, who currently sit atop their division at 6-2.
And then after their two huge games against the Bills and Broncos, the Chiefs' big three-game run culminates with a match-up against the Indianapolis Colts, who, surprisingly, have been the best team in football this year.
