Kevin Patullo reveals what Jalen Hurts does well that plagued him in the past

Just a few weeks ago, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was taking a ton of heat for his deep ball inaccuracies, but that seems to be resolved with one aspect that not many people are talking about.

Eagles fans saw Hurts gun the ball down the field to DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown multiple times in the team's 28-22 win over the Minnesota Vikings. While it wasn't seen as much in the 38-20 win over the New York Giants, Hurts still showed off his arm and hit Jahan Dotson on a deep ball touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

One part of Hurts' game that has been great this year is his protection of the football, with only one interception on the season. In the past, Hurts has struggled with turning the ball over on deep balls, with 2023 being a great example of most of his 15 interceptions that year coming from him just chucking the ball down the field.

Hurts' deep ball decision making has caught the attention of one of his coaches

Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo gave Hurts a ton of credit for being able to think smart when he sends the football down the field.

"I will say this, he's unbelievable at it. He does a tremendous job of understanding where to place the ball, seeing the coverage, knowing how to put it in a spot to where it's our guy or nobody, and he really works at it. I know you guys aren't out there the whole time when you watch practice. I mean, he works at it in between periods, during the period, constantly. He's talking to the guys, 'Here's where it's going to be, here's what I'm going to do.'

"I think it's those little extra things as far as him with the receivers and the tight end just being on the same page and working through it and constantly, constantly looking for an area to improve on. When he gets the opportunity to hit it, he does. I mean, he does a tremendous job. The ball's always catchable. It's fantastic to watch, and it opens up a lot of areas in the offense. So, when you can start hitting those, then all of a sudden, the runs start to go and other things start to open up."

After a slow start to the 2025 season, Hurts has completed 70.2% of his passes for 1,677 yards and 15 touchdowns to one interception. He's also run for 207 yards and five touchdowns.
