It is a mixed report for Leeds United’s loanees since the international break, with some finally finding rhythm and others stuck on the sidelines due to injury.
We will start with those currently undergoing rehabilitation for setbacks given not much has happened for them over the last fortnight. The most notable injured loanee is Largie Ramazani.
The winger has suffered a quadriceps issue in his right leg and has consequently missed Valencia’s last two goalless matches against Alaves, a draw, and Villarreal, a 2-0 defeat. Ramazani has played just 18 minutes all October.
Meanwhile Isaac Schmidt and Max Wober are out of action at Werder Bremen. Wober has not had a kick in the Bundesliga after suffering a hamstring tear just before the start of the league season. He is hoping to be back this month.
Meanwhile, Schmidt picked up a foot injury in training with Switzerland and has sat out his loan club’s recent draw with Heidenheim and win over Union Berlin. He too is expected to be back this month. Here are how the three other senior loanees have got on.
Joe Gelhardt
We have to start with Gelhardt given his incredible scoring streak for Hull City. The attacker has netted in three consecutive games against Birmingham City, Leicester City and Charlton Athletic, also grabbing an assist against the Foxes.
What has made the feat so impressive is the variety of roles Gelhardt has played in for each goal - attacking midfield, right wing and centre-forward. He now has five goals and two assists overall, which has left boss Sergej Jakirovic “very, very happy”.
Mateo Joseph
Joseph appears to have regained the trust of Mallorca boss Jagoba Arrasate amid consecutive starts for the first time since September. There was no way he could drop the Leeds loanee after his two goals set up the 3-1 win over Sevilla after the international break.
Joseph started a game on the right wing for the first time in a 1-1 draw with Levante last weekend, lasting the full 90 minutes for only the second time since arriving on the Spanish island.
Mallorca are now out of the relegation zone in La Liga having successfully gone two games without defeat for the first time this season. Joseph himself has two goals and two assists to his name.
Charlie Crew
Crew has had a more reserved time, spending the last two games on the bench for Doncaster Rovers. He had been omitted from the prior three squads, but at least one these matches was missed due to being called up for Wales’ Under-21s camp.
It nevertheless means he has yet to play club football in October, his last appearance coming via a 16-minute stint against Tottenham Hotspur in the 3-0 League Cup defeat on September 24. He has played seven games in all so far, four being starts and two coming in the League Cup.
