‘Strong push’ being made for Burnley target – International battle on the cards

Burnley target Karim Coulibaly isn’t just being targeted by the Clarets. He’s also set to be battled over by Germany and the Ivory Coast.

That’s [according to BILD](https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/werder-bremen-es-gibt-schon-kontakt-verliert-der-dfb-ein-juwel-6901d1a659e2e0975070eef5), who cover the defender today and the battle that is likely to develop for him.

Reports last week made it clear that Burnley are keen on the 18-year-old defender. Their scout was at the club on Friday to watch him in action against Union Berlin.

Burnley are reportedly eyeing a move for the highly rated defender. And it seems they’re not the only ones keeping a close eye on his development.

According to BILD’s information, the Ivorian Football Federation are making a ‘strong push’ for him. They’ve already inquired about his availability. He holds dual citizenship with them and Germany.

He’s only played for the German U19’s so far. So long as he doesn’t appear for the senior side, a change of allegiance is possible. Coulibaly feels a strong connection to the Ivory Coast despite growing up in Germany.

Both his parents are from the African country and he’s a big fan of the culture. But he’s also grateful to Germany. International success is also greater with the Germans. It remains to be seen what the German FA, the DFB, do to respond.

The youngster is highly rated, and it seems Burnley aren’t the only ones vying for him. There’s even a battle set to develop on the international stage.
