Konstantinos Mavropanos is expected to be sidelined until the beginning of December at the earliest after being forced to withdraw midway through West Ham's recent home defeat against Brentford.
The Greek international tore a hamstring in the closing stages of the game having attempted to break into a sprint and was helped off the pitch by medics; West Ham went on to lose the game 2-0.
The news will come as a major blow to new Hammers Head Coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who has also lost fellow defender Ollie Scarles (dislocated shoulder) this week, as Mavropanos' injury leaves him with just two fully match fit central defenders in Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo.
Fellow centre half Igor Julio, currently on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion has featured on just one occasion since moving from the south coast, as an 89th minute substitute against Everton back in September.
All of which means Mavropanos is set to miss the forthcoming matches against Newcastle Utd (2 November), Burnley (8 November), Bournemouth (22 November) and Liverpool (30 November) at a minimum, with club medics hoping he will be back in time to travel with the rest of the squad to Old Trafford on 4 December.
* In other injury news, Niclas Fullkrug is expected to be out of action for another fortnight, at least. The German striker injured a thigh during the recent international break and will definitely miss the Newcastle clash.
