Cleveland Browns Film Room: Myles Garrett's Record-Breaking Performance

There weren't a whole lot of bright spots from the Cleveland Browns 32-13 loss to the New England Patriots, but the biggest was the performance of Myles Garrett, who finally got the sacks he was owed, logging a career-high and team-record five on his way to topping Hall of Famer Reggie White in a key area.

Garrett entered the game with 107.5 sacks just one-half behind White for the most sacks before a players 30th birthday in NFL history. After a five-sack outburst, which sets a new Browns team record, Garrett sits at 112.5, which is 27th all time, and he still has eight more games to play before he turns 30, which is plenty of time to extend his under-30 lead. While it may not feel like it means a whole lot given the ineptitude that Garrett has had to deal with for almost the entirety of his career, his breaking the record on Sunday served as a reminder to fans of just how special of a player he is, which is something that can sometimes get lost in the misery.

By passing T.J. Watt (who is at 112), Garrett is now fourth among active players in sacks, behind Calais Campbell, Cameron Jordan, and Von Miller. He's at 10 on the season, and in order to break into the top 20, he needs 11.5 more; his current career-high for a season is 16, which he hit in both 2021 and 2022, but that now looks to be within reach, as is another Defensive Player of the Year award.
