Help could be on the way for the Raiders at the quarterback position. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, he reported on his Twitter page on Wednesday morning,

“The#Raiders are opening the practice window for QB Aidan O’Connell, sources say, adding another element to the Las Vegas QB room. O’Connell fractured his wrist in late August and landed on IR, prompting the trade for QB Kenny Pickett. Now, he’s back sooner rather than later.”

Aidan O’Connell has not played a down yet this season for the Raiders, but he could potentially play for them soon if Geno Smith does not get out of his slump. During the 2024 season, he completed 63.4% of his passes for 1,612 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions.

The Raiders have 21 days to get O’Connell onto the active roster. There is no doubt that Las Vegas fans want to see him as the starting quarterback at some point before the 2025 NFL season ends. This is what some fans said on Twitter about him potentially returning to the 53-man roster soon:

He honestly should play over Geno…can he really be ANY worse???

Great news for Raiders fans! Aidan O’Connell’s return to practice is a game-changer. His quick recovery from that wrist injury adds depth to the QB room. Excited to see how he fits back in and pushes the team forward! #Raiders #AOC #NFL

Good, he can run that offense better than “Geno Smith”

Geno Smith is in trouble now

O’Connell back sooner than expected

If things go well for him over the next few days, maybe he will be back for the Jaguars matchup on Sunday. If not, then Las Vegas could bring him back either against the Denver Broncos or the Dallas Cowboys. Should O’Connell be the backup quarterback this weekend against Jacksonville, Smith could potentially be on a short leash.
