‘It doesn’t look good’ Wiegman fears the worst with Agyemang injury

England boss Sarina Wiegman is downbeat about Michelle Agyemang’s injury prognosis after the 19-year-old was stretchered off in England’s friendly win over Australia.

Ageymang, who is on loan at Brighton this season, came on for Alessia Russo in the second half but left a few minutes later on a stretcher in clear anguish. Play stopped for several minutes with concerned England players looking on.

Asked about Agyemang’s knee injury after the game, Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman cut a pessimistic figure. ‘It was an awful moment,’ she said in her post-match press conference. ‘It doesn’t look good.

‘We don’t know yet because she needs to be assessed but I am not very positive about what I have seen.’ The Gunners academy product became a household name during the summer as she scored two massive goals for England from the bench as the Lionesses retained the European Championships.

Agyemang is spending a second season on loan at Brighton with a view to developing into a long-term option at centre-forward for Arsenal. We can only hope the prognosis is better than it looks. Olivia Smith already left the Canada National Team during the break with a hip injury, back-up goalkeeper Manu Zinsberger also tore her ACL in training a couple of weeks ago.
