Thomas Frank praises 'impressive' Eddie Howe ahead of huge game at St James' Park

· 29 October 2025, 14:30

Newcastle United host Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park in the Carabao Cup this evening in an 8 pm kick-off live on ITV and Sky Sports.

Both sides are looking to book their place in the quarter-final draw, which will take place shortly after full-time tonight.

The game feels too tight to call, especially after Spurs' impressive win on Sunday.

It feels like it's all going to come down to which manager puts out the stronger side, with both gaffers expected to make several changes.

Thomas Frank has a lot of admiration for Eddie Howe

Speaking of the managers, Thomas Frank was extremely complimentary about Newcastle boss Eddie Howe in his pre-match press conference.

“Remarkable job in Bournemouth. I followed his team, followed what they did. Fantastic.

“And then he got the big job or the bigger job in Newcastle, and the way he turned that around to qualify for the Champions League twice, I think, and of course when the cup came out, he transformed the club.

“I think that’s quite impressive. He’s a clever tactician, he clearly knows what he wants, very consistent, and I think he’s done very well.”

We can't call it tonight

Thomas Frank is breathing rarified air right now as a manager of one of the 'Big Six' clubs that we actually like. Of course, it's early days yet. We liked Arne Slot at first.

Having said that, we don't like him enough that we wouldn't begrudge him a win tonight; we absolutely would.

We genuinely can't call it tonight. What are your thoughts?
