Long throw-ins are back in fashion in a big way in the Premier League this season, and it has become a big talking point.
Opta say that there have been an average of 4.0 long throws (measuring 20m or more) into the penalty box per game so far this campaign.
That is reportedly “more than double” of any other season since records started to be kept over a decade ago (2014-15). It’s a trend that has been the subject of much debate over the last week or so, with some pundits praising the back-to-basics approach while others have criticised its proliferation.
