The Miami Dolphins have a 2-6 record this season and they will have a lot of questions to answer as a franchise once the 2025 NFL season ends. The Dolphins will face the Baltimore Ravens (2-5) on Thursday night football this week.

Miami could potentially fire head coach Mike McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier once the season ends. Another thing this franchise could potentially do after the season ends is move off of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The Dolphins could potentially be starting all over next season. Will they draft a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft in the first round or are they going to make another move for this football team?
Latest Mock Draft Has the Miami Dolphins Selecting Safety Caleb Downs Fifth Overall In 2026 NFL Draft

Ohio State Buckeyes defensive back Caleb Downs (2) reacts during the game against the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025 in Madison, Wisconsin.
Ohio State Buckeyes safety Caleb Downs is no doubt one of the most talented players that is going to be entering the 2026 NFL Draft. At the moment, Miami currently holds the fifth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Cooper Petagna of CBS Sports created his latest 2026 NFL Mock Draft. A lot of people probably think that the Dolphins will find a Tua replacement in next year’s draft. However, he thinks that Miami in his latest mock draft will select Downs in this spot. Petagna said about the Buckeyes star safety,
“There may not be a safer player in next April’s draft than Caleb Downs. A three-year starter at both Alabama and Ohio State, Downs brings rare versatility, elite football instincts and the kind of maturity and professionalism that NFL teams rave about. After adding Kenneth Grant to their defensive front last year, the Dolphins turn their attention to the secondary — landing the defensive face of their franchise in Downs.”
Downs this season with Ohio State has recorded 34 tackles and one interception. He is 6’0″ and weighs 205 lbs. There is no doubt that drafting Downs would be a very good add for this Dolphins defense. With that being said, Miami might be better off finding a replacement for Tagovailoa in the 2026 NFL Draft rather than drafting a safety in the top five.
