An update on the New York Jets’ approach to the trade deadline suggests a fire sale won’t happen, but certain players are more likely to be playing elsewhere after Nov. 4.
For the first time all season, Week 8 brought reason to celebrate for Jets fans. After losing their first seven games, they scored a completely unexpected, wild, come-from-behind win against the Cincinnati Bengals. Yet, the victory will not change the team’s thinking one bit before the trade deadline.
Their win on Sunday will likely be one of the few this season. New general manager Darren Mougey can’t let an opportunity to improve the team’s long-term prospects pass by over the next week. New York must make some trades to cultivate NFL Draft assets. The big question is how many will Gang Green make in the coming days?
On Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler looked to answer that question. New York could make some big trades over the next week because they have talent on the roster that is far better than the impression their record gives. But that is also the reason why Fowler believes the Jets’ trade approach will be a “middle ground” between a “fire sale” and doing nothing. Where they identify and move “a few veterans deemed expendable.”

But which players will that be? While Breece Hall and Quinnen Williams will garner the most interest, Fowler suggests the team is in no rush to move either, and the offer will have to be a sizable one that the team can’t refuse. That is unlikely to come before Tuesday.
Talented edge Jermaine Johnson is another player who has been linked to trade rumors and could fetch a meaningful return. However, Fowler reports, “Johnson recently had a productive talk with [head coach Aaron] Glenn, and it feels like he’s staying.”
To the NFL insider, Michael Carter II — and players like him — are the “most obvious candidates” the Jets will feel are expendable and try and get a solid return for before next week’s trade deadline.
