The Detroit Lions have locked up one of their homegrown stars long-term, agreeing to a four-year, $180 million extension with edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. The second overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft is back to playing at his Pro Bowl level after missing most of the 2024 season due to a broken fibula and tibia. Through seven games he has six sacks, six tackles for loss and 13 quarterback hits while leading the NFL in forced fumbles (four) and total pressures (48).
Hutchinson’s deal comes just over a month after Micah Parsons’ record-breaking deal with the Green Bay Packers after being traded by the Dallas Cowboys. Here’s how the two contracts stack up:

While Parsons’ contract is worth $8 million more at $188 million over four years, Hutchinson secured more guaranteed money at $141 million compared to Parsons’ $120 million. However, Parsons still holds the record for highest average annual value among non-quarterbacks at $46.5 million, with Hutchinson trailing by $1.5 million at $45 million per year, good for second.
With premier edge rushers commanding contracts of this magnitude, the market will only continue to climb. Thanks to Parsons and Hutchinson resetting the standard, non-quarterbacks earning $50 million per season will soon become the new normal.
