Breece Hall's chances of being traded by Jets getting 'murkier'

There are a lot of teams keeping a close eye on the New York Jets as the trade deadline approaches. With a 1-7 record, the Jets are clear sellers, and a lot of interesting players could be available for the right price.

While slot cornerback Michael Carter II is a likely trade candidate, so too is running back Breece Hall. Or at least, that was the case the last few weeks.

According to ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano, the "slam dunk" nature of a Hall trade is no longer the case. Instead, he reports that a trade of Hall is "murkier" than it has been all season.

A Jets trade of Breece Hall is no longer a 'slam dunk'

"This one felt like a slam dunk for most of the season," Graziano reports, "but it has started to sound a little murkier over the past week."

With Hall in the final year of his deal, on a 1-7 team, a trade is still possible. But it's not as likely as it once was. There are a couple of reasons why the Jets might not be as inclined to move him this season.

The first is that the Jets might be considering bringing Hall back next year. While they could still attempt to re-sign him in free agency, the chances of him coming back to the Jets aren't as great as they would be if they keep him.

Add on that if the Jets do move on from Hall, they will be down a core part of the offense. Hall is a great player, and while Isaiah Davis has shown some promise in his limited workload, Hall is still the best running back on the Jets roster.

If Braelon Allen were healthy, the equation might be a bit different. But, since he's out for a while, the Jets would be down their top two players in the running back room for the later stages of the season.

Even though winning isn't the priority for the Jets anymore, fielding a competitive and entertaining team is still something that Aaron Glenn and the Jets likely want to do.

Trading Hall, the team's best running back and second only to Garrett Wilson in terms of high-profile offensive players, would make the Jets' already rough offense look a lot worse going forward.

If the Jets can't land a decent return for Hall, then a deal is even more unlikely. While there were plenty of trade rumors surrounding Hall, the Jets running back might not be on the move this season based on this report, as his chance of being traded is a "little murkier" than it was earlier in the year.
