The former Wolves man has delved into the managerial world since hanging up his boots back in 2018
Wolves are at serious risk of dropping into the Championship if they can’t turn their fortunes around soon. Pressure is starting to mount on Vitor Pereira as his side remain winless in the Premier League. They are inside the drop zone along with West Ham and Nottingham Forest and were beaten 3-2 at home by Burnley last time out.
The Midlands outfit are back in action on Wednesday night with a Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea. They then return to their league duties away at Fulham on Saturday. Pereira moved to Molineux last winter and kept his current club up last season with relative comfort in the end.
Former Wolves man Robbie Keane under consideration for Celtic job
According to The Telegraph, ex-Wolves striker Robbie Keane is under consideration for the Celtic job. The Hoops are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Brendan Rodgers following his recent resignation at Celtic Park. They have a big decision to make and have placed Martin O’Neill in interim charge until a permanent successor is found.
Keane, 45, has managed ATK and Maccabi Tel Aviv since hanging up his boots back in 2018. He is currently in charge of Ferencvaros in Hungary. However, his current club could now face a battle to keep hold of him amid attention from Glasgow.
The former Republic of Ireland international joined Wolves as a youngster back in 1997 and went on to become a key player during his time in the Midlands. He scored 29 goals in 86 games before leaving for Coventry City. The Dublin-born man later went on to have spells with the likes of Inter Milan, Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic, West Ham, LA Galaxy and Aston Villa before calling time on his playing days.
Who else is in the frame for Celtic?
Celtic will be weighing up their options right now as they look to close the gap between them and Hearts at the summit of the Scottish Premiership. Keane isn’t the only name in the frame for their vacancy right now. The Telegraph also claim Ange Postecoglou is also on their radar, as well as Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna. Meanwhile, Sky Sports report Wales manager Craig Bellamy is also admired along with Bodo/Glimt's Kjetil Knutsen and Club Brugge's Nicky Hayen.
Ex-Wolves ace Keane has adapted well to life in the dugout since retiring. He said in an interview earlier this year: "Of course, it's difficult, because I always felt as a player I was always in control. I always knew I could do something, make something happen. I could score a goal at any second. But then, as a coach, you're relying on the players to do it. So you give them instruction, give them as much as possible to do, but yeah, you're relying on them. So I think as a manager, that's probably the hardest thing, to be honest."
He added: "Being a manager, tactically is 20-30 percent [of it], I'd say. The 70 percent is how you manage a group, how you manage the players, how you keep 25 players happy."
