“I almost left” – Player confirms agreement with Everton, eventually turned them down

Fulham defender Kenny Tete has admitted he had an agreement in place with Everton this summer.

[Voetbal Primeur have an interview](https://www.voetbalprimeur.nl/videos/1706746/tete-was-dichtbij-vertrek-bij-fulham-ik-wilde-hier-nog-meer-historie-schrijven.html) with the Fulham defender this week. He’s discussed various topics, including his decision to stay at Craven Cottage in the summer.

The 30-year-old looked destined to leave at one point. His contract was coming to and an end an agreement over a new deal hadn’t been reached with Marco Silva’s side.

There were offers on the table too. Ajax had shown an interest in bringing him back, while Everton were very keen.

In fact, they moved quickly and opened up negotiations with the Fulham man. Reports then claimed an agreement had been reached and he would be moving to Merseyside.

The deal appeared done until a sudden turn in the matter as Tete then agreed to a new deal at Fulham instead. That was later signed, extending his time with Fulham until 2028.

Everton, interestingly, did not sign another right-back alternative. That’s despite the area having been a problem one for them for several seasons.

Tete has no regrets about his decision, though, despite an agreement being in place with David Moyes’ side.

“I almost left,” he said.

“We couldn’t reach an agreement with Fulham, but we did with Everton. Once we had an agreement with Everton, we finally managed to reach an agreement with Fulham. Better late than never, I say. I want to make more history here.”
