The Cincinnati Bengals remain in the AFC playoff picture despite being without star quarterback Joe Burrow since his turf toe injury in Week 2. Though he is a bit away from returning, the star quarterback received an encouraging update from Zay Taylor.
Replacing Burrow’s production has been no easy task for Taylor, originally naming Jake Browning as the starter, but replacing him with Joe Flacco.
Flacco’s arrival has helped spark the Bengals’ offense, as they put up over 30 points in each of their last two games. However, if the Bengals are going to seriously contend this year, it will likely be because of a potential return later in the year from Burrow.

On Wednesday. Zac Taylor offered an update on how Burrow’s recovery process is going, explaining that his rehab has gone as the team had hoped, though there is currently still no timetable for him to return at this time.
Initial reports following Burrow’s injury had his potential return expected to come around mid-December. Based on Taylor’s comments here, it seems as if the plan to try and bring Burrow back at some point this season has not changed.
Ultimately, Burrow’s potential return will likely depend on where the Bengals sit in the AFC standings by the time the two-time Pro Bowler is healthy enough to play.
With this in mind, every game will be crucial for the Bengals to win moving forward if they want to have an outside chance of not only getting Burrow back this season, but also to potentially compete for a postseason spot down the stretch of the season.
Sitting at 3-5 on the season, Cincinnati will look to right the ship in Week 9 against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, who are coming off a Week 8 loss of their own against the Baltimore Ravens.
