Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is starting to feel the heat after their poor start to the new Premier League season
Wolves are back in action on Wednesday night at home to fellow Premier League side Chelsea in the Carabao Cup. They will be looking to bounce back from their 3-2 loss against Burnley last time out in the league last Sunday. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi got their goals against the Clarets but they weren’t able to get anything from the game.
The Midlands outfit find themselves bottom of the table and are yet to win in nine fixtures. They are inside the drop zone along with West Ham and Nottingham Forest. Pereira is starting to feel the heat and could be under pressure soon if things don’t improve.
Matt Le Tissier on Vitor Pereira’s Wolves future
Former Premier League striker Matt Le Tissier believes Wolves will stick with Pereira for the time being. The Portuguese boss was picked as their replacement for Gary O’Neil last winter and managed to keep them up with ease in the last campaign. However, things haven’t gone to plan for them so far this season and they have been seriously struggling for results.
Despite this, ex-Southampton favourite Le Tissier can see him staying put for now. He has delivered his verdict on the situation, as per a report by Football Insider: “I think if they’ve just given him a new three-year contract, that tells you that there is a lot of support there from the board, so I think he will get a bit more time to turn things around.”
As Le Tissier alluded to, Pereira has recently been handed a new three-year deal as recently as last month. His contract expires in June 2028 meaning he still has lots of time left to run down. If Wolves were to cut ties with him, they would likely have to pay a lot of money to do so which wouldn’t be ideal.
What now for Vitor Pereira at Wolves?
Wolves sold key players like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri this past summer to Manchester United and Manchester City. They have since missed their influence and weren’t able to replace them adequately. They managed to keep hold of Larsen amid attention from Newcastle United but he has struggled to find his shooting boots so far this term.
Pereira has the chance to bolster his ranks with some new signings in the January transfer window. He could do with some more quality in his squad. The former FC Porto and Flamengo man also has the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well this winter if needed. That would help free up space and funds to pave the way for reinforcements.
Confidence will be low at Wolves right now and they have a big league match coming up against Fulham on Saturday after they get their cup tie against Chelsea out of the way. Marco Silva’s men find themselves in 17th position and have been out of form recently. The London outfit risk getting dragged into trouble if they can’t start winning soon.
