The South Bay Lakers officially announced they have traded for Gonzaga star and former Brooklyn Net, Drew Timme, from the Long Island Nets in exchange for Nate Williams.
Timme has been one of basketball’s most intriguing players to follow over the past few years, and he’ll now get another chance to prove himself with the Los Angeles Lakers’ G League affiliate. The 25-year-old spent last season with the Brooklyn Nets, splitting time between the G League and the main roster. In nine appearances with Brooklyn, Timme averaged 12.1 points and 7.2 rebounds, including three double-doubles.
A standout at Gonzaga University, Timme carved out a decorated four-year college career. He averaged 17.2 points and 6.7 rebounds on 61.8% shooting from the field, leading his conference in scoring twice and earning two Conference Player of the Year awards.
After college, Timme began his professional journey with the Wisconsin Herd, the Milwaukee Bucks’ G League affiliate, before spending the following season with the Stockton Kings. He later joined the Long Island Nets, where he posted several career-best performances — including a memorable 50-point game on 80.7% shooting.
Timme’s strong showing in Brooklyn’s Summer League only added to the buzz surrounding him. Across three games, he averaged 25.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists, convincing many that he’d earned a permanent NBA roster spot. However, he was surprisingly waived before the start of preseason.
Now in Los Angeles, Timme has a fresh opportunity to showcase his talent. With seven players currently on the Lakers’ injury list, South Bay could rely heavily on him early. If Timme can recapture the dominance he showed in college and the G League, a main roster call-up may not be far off.
