New York Yankees legendary manager Joe Torre is the subject of a forthcoming documentary, with John Turturro directing.
[Per _Deadline_](https://deadline.com/2025/10/joe-torre-doc-john-turturro-in-works-1236600498/), the film project is currently titled _Joe Torre_. Turturro also shared some of his thoughts about the inspiration for the film with _Deadline_‘s Matt Grobar.
“Joe Torre’s lifelong journey to the World Series is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, through a changing landscape and turbulent times,” Turturro said. “There’s something deeply human about Joe Torre’s quiet strength. In a time when men in sports hid their emotions behind toughness, Joe defied convention. His strength comes from compassion, his victories from understanding people.”
Torre also made a public statement on the upcoming film, per Grobar:

“It’s hard to imagine that a nervous Brooklyn kid who had low self-esteem could go on a journey like mine across more than 60 years. I once didn’t think I was going anywhere. But baseball gave me a place to hide — and ultimately the opportunity to find things in myself that I never knew were there. I am grateful that John Turturro, who witnessed the hometown dream I’ve been fortunate enough to live, is joining me to look back and tell the story in a personal way.”
Given his iconic status as the Yankees’ manager, some people overlook the fact that Torre also played 18 MLB seasons (1960-1977) as a catcher/first baseman, batting .297 with 252 HR, nine All-Star selections and 1971 NL MVP award!

Torre’s managerial career will always remain his crowning achievement, however, and for good reason. Torre managed 29 years, winning 2,326 games. He led the Yankees to four World Series titles (1996, 1998-2000). Torre was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.
