'Unbelievable': Tyler Adams once explained why latest Leeds United target excites him

Leeds United are admirers of Haji Wright – a player who has several connections at Elland Road.

Wright has played with Brenden Aaronson for the United States, albeit failing to combine for a goal in 14 appearances alongside the man born in Medford.

Furthermore, Weston McKennie and Wright know each other well and are close friends, having played together for both Schalke and the United States.

The connections run even deeper, as Tyler Adams is a fan of the Leeds target as well.

Tyler Adams has been impressed by the development of Haji Wright

Wright has made plenty of progress in recent years.

The man from Los Angeles failed to score in 22 Eredivisie appearances for VVV-Venlo in the 2019/20 campaign, but saw his career take off after a move to Antalyaspor in 2021.

Wright netted 31 goals in 64 games for the Turkish side, and has since bagged 40 in 94 outings for Coventry following his move to England in August 2023.

Adams – who made 26 appearances for Leeds – has previously pinpointed the 2022 World Cup as a turning point for his fellow countryman, whose personal development has excited him.

The Washington Post quoted the American as saying back in March 2024: “What he’s done with Coventry has been unbelievable… a player that’s developed a lot, even since the World Cup. You can see … he was just clinical with every chance he got. It’s good to see him like that because I played with him for a long time and I know the talent that he has.”

Adams had previously said: “I’m excited to be back around him again, and see how he’s grown and how he’s developed and matured as a person.”

Wright and Adams have made 23 appearances together for three different teams – the United States U17 and U18 sides along with the senior side.

Coventry will need a tempting offer to sell Haji Wright before the summer

Wright is set to start for the United States at the FIFA World Cup this summer, and considering the tournament is being held in his homeland, he could become a star of the competition.

Should that happen, his stock would rise significantly, so Coventry will surely be mindful of that when the January transfer window rolls around.
