Dexter Lawrence fires back at Carl Banks after Giants great's harsh criticism

New York Giants legend Carl Banks and star defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence have serious beef.

It all kicked off when Banks criticized the Giants' best defender for his lackluster play and even went so far as to say that "nobody respects you anymore."

“Dexter Lawrence, nobody respects you anymore. Nobody,” Banks said on the Bleav in Giants podcast. “Your opponents do not — the pre-injury Dexter is not there in their heads. They don’t respect you. And there’s a difference. You’re on the field, they’re blocking you with a [five]-year backup center. You’re not making a difference. The old Dexter would. There are a lot of things that go into your performance, only you know what that is. Whether you’re still recovering or not, I’m just telling you now, I’m looking at enough tape to know that your opponents don’t respect you, not like they used to.”

“It’s time for you to start expecting more of yourself,” Banks added on Lawrence. “I don’t know if you’re injured, I don’t know if you’re fully recovered, but it’s time to start asking more of yourself.”

When asked about Banks' comments on Wednesday, it was very clear that Lawrence wasn't bothered, and he even called Banks "delusional."

"If that's how he feels, f*** it," Lawrence said, before adding that what Banks says doesn't matter to him because the Giants great is "delusional."

"That don't faze me, man," Lawrence added. "I'm just gonna keep doing what I'm doing to get ready to win, that's it. I'm gonna keep preparing every week, getting ready to win and going out there and not getting respect."

To be clear, Lawrence disagreed vehemently with the idea he isn't getting respect. He also doesn't think he's having a bad season in his first year back from a dislocated elbow injury that ended his 2024 campaign early.

"I hope people start trying to disrespect me," Lawrence added. "I think I'm doing what I can when I get the opportunities. Numbers aren't everything. I've been an advocate over that last year, the year before that, the year before that.

"I don't think numbers indicate anything for real. They just something that's on your stat sheet. I think the way I play is disruptive and you ask people I play against, they tell you the same thing, not people who's talking."

Lawrence went to say he doesn't have much of a relationship with Banks outside of a cordial hello here and there. Safe to say, we might have seen the last of those hellos.

Banks has always been outspoken when it comes to his gripes with the Giants, of which there are rightly many because of how bad New York has been for so long.

It's fair to expect Banks will have a rebuttal once he gets wind of what Lawrence said on Wednesday.
