What former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel told Man Utd star Mason Mount after he became England manager
Thomas Tuchel has his eyes on Mason Mount and the England head coach is considering calling the Manchester United star up for Three Lions duty again.
England will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign during the November international break, with the Three Lions facing both Serbia and Albania.
The Three Lions have punched their ticket to the 2026 World Cup in North America, but the November fixtures could allow Tuchel to test the waters with Mount again.
Speaking ahead of the 2025-26 Premier League season, Mount had revealed what Tuchel had told him and how he left the door open for a potential return with England.
“I played quite a bit under him,” he said in July, as per ESPN.
“We won the Champions League, so that’s a positive. But I think with England it’s totally different now.
“I think the competition with places, the amount of people he can pick, it’s a bit different than club football. So, I don’t think it goes hand in hand.
“He said to me, there’s no guarantees, even though you played for me. But it gives you more, you want to push even more to be able to be back in the squad.
“So, it was really good to speak to him. He looked very excited.”

Mason Mount’s chat with England manager Thomas Tuchel has shown at Man Utd this season
Mount has not represented England since the 2022 World Cup, with the Red Devils midfielder featuring in the Three Lions’ 2-1 quarter-final defeat to France in Qatar.
Fast-forward from Mount’s last Three Lions appearance and England have undergone a major change, with Sir Gareth Southgate leaving his head coach role.
Sir Gareth Southgate stepped down after England’s defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final and former Bayern Munich manager Tuchel succeeded him in 2025.
Mount’s desire to play for England was evident after his chat with Tuchel, but the ex-Three Lions ace put his focus in the right place and that was with United.
“As a player, you always want to play for your country and that’s such a big honour to play for your country,” he said.
“Any opportunity that you get to put that shirt on is amazing. I know what it means to be able to play for your country.
“I’d love to have that opportunity again, but I’m focusing on club football first.”
Mount was well aware that his United form was the key to climbing back into the England fold and it could only be a matter of time before that becomes a reality for him.
