The Premier League has taken a huge shift towards focusing on set piece dominance of late, and Leeds United have been one of the sides that has looked to capitalise on the growing trend.
Upon returning to the Premier League, it became abundantly clear that Leeds would not be able to play football in the same manner that helped them accrue 100 points in the Championship.
Being technically superior to the opposition was no longer possible. So, raising the physical level of the squad was needed, and playing in a manner that suits it. What has transpired is most of the league following in this same pattern.

Leeds United becoming a horrible team to play against, and it helps Daniel Farke’s survival hopes
The signings of several players 6ft and above, plus players that can cover ground immensely well has fed into what Daniel Farke is aiming to build this season at Leeds.
It was on display against West Ham in that superb first half. Leeds powered their way into a 2-0 lead through an aggressive start and crosses into the box. The Irons’ midfield couldn’t live with United’s drive, flagging as Ethan Ampadu and Brenden Aaronson both waltzed through time and again.

Leeds’ investment and focus on physicality, athleticism, and dead ball specialism is proved in the numbers. Leeds’ four goals so far from set pieces is the fourth-best tally in the division.
In particular, Joe Rodon’s two goals from Sean Longstaff corners are proving to be a valuable source of threat for Farke.
Unique problem for Leeds United away at Brighton amidst set-piece focus
Up next for Leeds is a trip to the AMEX against Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton. The Seagulls have been licking their wounds this week after being swept aside by a resurgent Manchester United 4-2 at Old Trafford.
Interestingly, while Leeds will be looking to capitalise on set piece opportunities away from home, the reverse is actually true of Brighton this season.

Per WhoScored, the Seagulls have the joint-best defence in terms of conceding goals from set pieces, letting in just one so far, which came on the opening day against Fulham.

Goals conceded 15 19th
Conceded from set pieces 1 =1st
Conceded from open play 11 19th
On the flip side, Brighton have the second worst defensive record from open play, shipping 11 of their 15 goals from open play.
Given Leeds’ emphasis on being dominant from set pieces, they will have a different proposition facing them on the south coast.
Chances should come from open play. But, it’s a test of how Leeds can threaten a team in settled possession, as opposed to forcing their way through from a corner.
