Eagles just made the trade fans have been praying for since Week 1

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has done it again. Another trade, another update for the Birds.

The Eagles have executed a trade with the New York Jets that will give Philly cornerback Michael Carter II and a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for wide receiver John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick. NFL insider Ian Rapoport added that Carter agreed to delete the $5 million guaranteed for injury in his 2026 contract year so that he can join the Eagles.

Carter started four of the five games he appeared in this season for the Jets, racking up 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass deflections. Metchie has been relatively quiet for the Eagles as he caught just four passes for 18 yards and returned seven kickoffs.

Eagles finally get their cornerback and help the secondary

God bless Roseman for making a move to improve the secondary. It should be understood, though, that Carter will not be going on the outside. He is a slot corner and will fit perfectly in that spot.

This only means that defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will most likely officially move Cooper DeJean to the outside. Fangio had hinted at this possibility during his press conference, but was worried about moving DeJean out of a spot where he has excelled.

The trade also signals the Eagles' confidence in the wide receiver room. It should also quiet all the talks about A.J. Brown being traded, as Philly needs him more than ever now, with a limited room.

Carter isn't going to be a game-changing corner that some fans were hoping for, but he's exactly what the team needs right now. DeJean was always destined to be on the outside and after the way he shut down Justin Jefferson in the Minnesota Vikings game, it made more sense to do it.

Roseman didn't give up a lot of capital to get a starting nickel corner, so this is a huge win for the Eagles.
