ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Broncos practiced Wednesday without a trio of players injured during last Sunday’s rout of the Dallas Cowboys, as expected.
Tight end Nate Adkins, wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. and cornerback Pat Surtain II were all held out of on-field work as preparations for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans began.
Adkins appeared to suffer a knee injury in the fourth quarter last Sunday. Mims landed in the concussion protocol. Surtain incurred a pectoral-muscle injury and is expected to miss the next few weeks.
Surtain and Mims were seen working out a side field during the Broncos’ practice.
“I’m gonna attack rehab. Let it get better, let it get stronger,” Surtain said on his podcast. “But in the meantime, I’ll be kicking it, you know? I mean, supporting my dogs, it’s gonna suck, though, because I love being out there with the guys competing, being out there on the field, being that leader, but mind the setback. I’m gonna get back right.”
BRONCOS GET A NEW TIGHT END ON THE FIELD
While Adkins, Mims and Surtain were not practicing, veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis was. Wearing jersey No. 89, he made his on-field debut after a Tuesday tryout.
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw also returned to practice after sitting out last week due to a suspension for a postgame incident after the Broncos’ win over the New York Giants when he yelled at referee Brad Allen.
