Broncos stay strong in Week 9 NFL Power Rankings

The Denver Broncos put together one of their best wins of the season on Sunday in a 44-24 triumph over the Dallas Cowboys. The defense shut down one of the best offensive attacks in the NFL, while the offense took full advantage of a reeling defense that had no business being on the same field as the orange and blue.

The win, the Broncos’ fifth straight, kept them in sole possession of first place in the AFC West and in a tie with New England for the No. 2 seed in the AFC overall. However, it wasn’t enough to bump them up in the latest edition of the NFL Power Rankings, as they stayed at the No. 10 spot on the list.

There wasn’t exactly a whole lot of movement in the top 10 of the list. The Seahawks slid down to No. 6 while the Packers and Eagles slid up as the countering move, the only move among the league’s best teams. The fact that a win that convincing didn’t move them at all shows just how good the top of the NFL is and how challenging the playoffs will be for anyone given how even the talent distribution is.

For the AFC West, the Chiefs are still at No. 3, as they’ve looked like the same old, dominant Chiefs of the 2020s. The Chargers took a massive leap up the No. 12 — a five-spot leap that was tied with Houston for the biggest lead — while the lowly Raiders stayed pat at No. 29. The Colts (No. 2) and the Bills (No. 9) are the only other AFC teams ahead of Denver in the rankings.

The Broncos will have a big test this weekend against a talented Texans defense on the road. If they can extend the win streak to six, they’ll likely be able to surge up higher in next week’s edition of the rankings.
