Real Madrid backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will serve a one-match suspension after the red card he saw following the altercation during the last minutes of El Clásico between Los Blancos and FC Barcelona, which ended in a 2-1 win for Alonso’s men.
Real Madrid had appealed the red card but the allegations have been rejected and Lunin will serve his suspension when Los Blancos host Valencia this Saturday. Madrid had stated that the Ukrainian goalkeeper tried to make sure that the players involved in the altercation didn’t start fighting, but no evidence was found for the Spanish Football Federation to overturn the red card.
Lunin’s suspension will not be significant unless Thibaut Courtois suffers some kind of problem during the game, given that the Belgian goalkeeper is the undisputed starter for Real Madrid. As a matter of fact, Lunin will not be expected to play for Real Madrid until the start of the Copa del Rey campaign for Los Blancos.
