Wolves v Chelsea player ratings

**Chelsea secured a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals by surviving a second-half Wolves fightback at Molineux. Here’s how we rated each Blues player in the 4-3 win.

**

Filip Jorgensen: 5

------------------

A great save preserved the two-goal lead with 20 minutes left but his decision-making and cluelessness when dealing with crosses remains a huge worry – and he should have done better for David Moller Wolfe’s goal that made it 3-2.

Malo Gusto: 6

-------------

The Frenchman was quiet in attack but had a steady enough game in defence.

Tosin Adarabioyo: 4

-------------------

Much has been said of his relative experience and leadership qualities but neither were in evidence as Chelsea crumbled after the break. Had a comfortable first half but looked shaky as soon as he was put under pressure. Tosin was culpable in some way for three of the Wolves goals.

Josh Acheampong: 5

------------------

He was caught flat-footed for the goal that got Wolves back in the game, albeit there were far greater mistakes in the build-up. Looked confident as Chelsea cruised ahead but then increasingly panicky when questions were asked.

Jorrel Hato: 6

--------------

A solid enough display without ever really shining, although his header teed up Jamie Gittens for the crucial fourth Chelsea goal.

Romeo Lavia: 7

--------------

He was as assured on the ball as ever, most notably when staying calm under considerable pressure to launch the attack for Tyrique George’s goal.

Andrey Santos: 8

----------------

The Brazilian took his goal superbly, finding the bottom corner with a fine low finish, and showed wonderful anticipation to nick possession and set up Estavao for the third goal. He impressed with and without the ball.

Estavao: 8

----------

A delightful finish made it 3-0 but Estavao didn’t look as threatening as he normally does, before being taken off while on a yellow card following a couple of clumsy challenges that clearly concerned boss Enzo Maresca.

Facundo Buonanotte: 5

---------------------

He was typically neat and tidy as Chelsea dominated, showing he is a more than reliable option when others need a rest. But his blind pass set up Wolves’ first goal and that set the tone for an awful second half in which Buonanotte barely featured.

Jamie Gittens: 8

----------------

Chelsea’s standout performer in a one-sided first half, setting up two of the three goals. Gittens was barely involved after the break when the home side were on top throughout, but the winger rounded off a decent display with a glorious strike – his first goal for the club – which proved to be the winner.

Tyrique George: 6

-----------------

His hold-up was too often weak and wayward and his final ball regularly lets him down. George has to show more to be in the frame to start. He will never score an easier goal but deserves credit for his run and positioning.

Marc Cucurella: 6

-----------------

As feisty as ever and helped bring an edge so lacking when he came on with 30 minutes remaining.

Enzo Fernandez: 6

-----------------

Typically busy but was unable to bring the midfield the control so missing when he came off the bench.

Liam Delap: 5

-------------

Delap made a welcome return from injury but but looked sluggish. He brought a spikiness that was much needed with Chelsea were under relentless pressure and was unfortunate to be booked, but then lost his cool with a ridiculous challenge and was rightly sent off.

Pedro Neto: 6

-------------

Neto looked dangerous on the odd occasion he had the ball, but he made very little impact.

Moises Caicedo: 6

-----------------

He managed to bring a modicum of calm and made some important interventions late on.
