Inside how Micah Parsons is making Rashan Gary, Packers’ defense more dominant

The Packers‘ trade for Micah Parsons has the chance of going down as the most impactful made by any team across the NFL this season.

Parsons has been a driving force of coordinator Jeff Hafley’s system and since his arrival in Green Bay, raised the ceiling on the Packers’ Super Bowl chances in 2025, and beyond.

Parsons’ has become a force multiplier for Green Bay, and while the All-Pro’s production has been off the charts through the first half of the season, it’s his ability to create opportunities for the players around him in the front seven that has been the Packers’ biggest value-add.

“Parsons has been everything the Packers had hoped for,” Demovsky writes for ESPN. “And perhaps even more — when they traded away two first-round picks plus Kenny Clark before giving Parsons a $188 million contract.

“Parsons not only leads the NFL in pressures (33), he has helped free up Rashan Gary (who leads the Packers with 7.5 sacks) and bring an overall energy to the Packers’ defense. Green Bay ranks sixth in the NFL in yards allowed per game (289.4).”

Demovsky lists Parsons as the Packers’ best player, and it is easy to see why, given his 6.5 sacks through the season’s first seven games, combined with his 42 quarterback pressures, which ranks second in the NFL.

But, the fact that Lukas Van Ness, Rashan Gary, and Edgerrin Cooper have already combined for 10 sacks, with Gary posting a team-high 7.5 underscores Parson’s ability to elevate his teammates and the rest of Green Bay’s defense.
